Kota

Dakota Schuetz, known internationally as Kota, first built his identity through freestyle scooter, a discipline defined by speed, control and physical movement. Over time, that same energy expanded into design and visual art.

For this collaboration, Mavimatt selected the UFO Armchair as the meeting point between Kota’s dynamic graphic language and Mavimatt’s organic sculptural form.

Rather than treating the chair as a surface to customise, the UFO became a three-dimensional canvas, allowing the artist’s visual language to develop around its curves and proportions.

Kota travelled to the Mavimatt atelier in Italy, where he worked directly on the UFO Armchair and developed the artwork across its sculptural shell.

Using spray paint, hand-painted marks and layered mixed-media elements, he built the composition through colour, symbols and spontaneous gestures, following the curvature of the chair rather than working on a conventional flat surface.

The orange natural-leather upholstery was selected to establish a visual connection with the painted exterior, bringing depth and contrast to the final composition.

The completed piece retains the recognisable silhouette of the UFO Armchair while acquiring an entirely new visual identity through Kota’s expressive graphic language.

The artwork unfolds across the curved shell, changing as the piece is viewed from different angles and turning colour, gesture and movement into part of its three-dimensional character.

Produced as a single edition, 1/1, and signed by Kota, the work exists as a unique collectible piece where contemporary art, street culture and Italian sculptural design converge.
