Lithos
Inspired by stones naturally shaped and smoothed by flowing water
Lithos is a sculptural Italian sofa defined by soft, rounded volumes inspired by stones smoothed over time by mountain streams.
Handcrafted in Italy, Lithos combines a marine-grade plywood structure with layers of multi-density foam and memory foam, upholstered in leather, velvet, or selected fabrics.
Inside Lithos
Lithos, a Monolithic Sofa Shaped by the Movement of Water
Lithos draws its inspiration from stones found along mountain streams, gradually shaped and smoothed by the continuous movement of water. Their naturally rounded surfaces and softened contours become the starting point for the sofa’s organic geometry.
Each volume is conceived as a sculpted form, with flowing transitions and generous proportions that recreate the visual softness of water-worn stone.
The result is a seating collection with a distinctive presence, designed to bring an organic and inviting character to contemporary interiors.
Built by Hand, Layer by Layer
At the core of Lithos is a marine-grade plywood structure, individually constructed before being shaped through successive layers of cushioning. Different densities of foam are combined with memory foam to build the sofa’s rounded profile while creating the softness and support required for seating.
Each layer is applied and shaped by hand, allowing the upholstery to follow the continuous curves that define the design. The entire piece is handcrafted in Italy one at a time, from the internal structure to the final upholstery.
Once completed, each Lithos receives a Mavimatt identification label, hand-sewn onto the armrest by an upholsterer as a mark of authenticity.
Upholstery, Color, and Three Distinct Proportions
Lithos is available in three distinct proportions, each maintaining the rounded forms and sculptural balance that define the design. These variations allow the sofa to be considered for interiors of different scales.
Upholstery can be selected from leather, velvet, and selected fabrics, with a choice of colors to complement the surrounding space. The combination of material, color, and proportion allows for a personalized interpretation of Lithos.
Lithos — A Closer Look
Each Mavimatt piece is individually handcrafted in Italy. Subtle variations in surface, tone, texture, form and hand-finished details are inherent to artisanal production and make every piece unique. Images, renders and on-screen colors are for reference only and may differ slightly from the finished piece.
