Mozzarella
The iconic sofa inspired by traditional Italian braided mozzarella
Mozzarella is a sofa handcrafted in Italy, defined by soft, interwoven volumes that form a continuous, enveloping silhouette.
The design translates the traditional art of braiding mozzarella into a contemporary seating piece, bringing together softness, rhythm, and sculptural presence.
Inside Mozzarella
Inspired by the Gesture of Braiding
Mozzarella takes its name and inspiration from traditional Italian braided mozzarella. The design draws not only on its distinctive form but also on the craft of braiding itself.
The interlacing of soft strands becomes the conceptual basis for a sofa composed of rounded volumes that appear woven together into a single body.
Rather than following a conventional sofa structure, Mozzarella develops through a continuous sequence of intertwined forms. This gives the piece a strong sense of movement and an immediately recognizable identity, while preserving the comfort and presence expected from a generous seating element.
A Sculptural Sofa Shaped and Upholstered by Hand
Mozzarella is produced in Italy one piece at a time through a fully artisanal process. Its body is developed through carefully shaped internal structures combined with foams in different densities, completed with a final layer of memory foam to create a seat that is soft, supportive and consistent with the rounded geometry of the design.
Mavimatt’s skilled upholsterers carefully upholster each section by hand, refining the transitions between the individual volumes to preserve the sofa’s distinctive braided silhouette.
The result is a piece in which manual precision is essential to preserving the continuity of its sculptural form.
Each Mozzarella is completed with a Mavimatt-branded identification label, sewn by hand onto the finished sofa as a discreet mark of authenticity.
Velvet and Fabric Upholstery in a Wide Range of Colors
Mozzarella is available with velvet or fabric upholstery, offering a selection of textures and colors that complement its braided, sculptural form.
Each upholstery category is available in a range of colors selected according to the client’s preferences, from more restrained tones that emphasize the continuity of the form to more expressive choices that highlight the rhythm of the interwoven volumes.
The choice of upholstery plays an important role in defining the character of Mozzarella. Velvet can emphasize its soft, tactile presence, while other fabrics offer different textures and surface effects, allowing the sofa to take on distinct interpretations without altering its sculptural silhouette.
Mozzarella — A Closer Look
Each Mavimatt piece is individually handcrafted in Italy. Subtle variations in surface, tone, texture, form and hand-finished details are inherent to artisanal production and make every piece unique. Images, renders and on-screen colors are for reference only and may differ slightly from the finished piece.
