Medusa
A floor lamp inspired by the fluid movement of jellyfish
Medusa is a jellyfish-inspired floor lamp handcrafted in Italy, composed of hand-blown Murano glass elements arranged along a slender metal stem above a marble base.
Its design draws on the shifting forms of jellyfish, translating their fluid movement into a vertical composition in which each glass element is individually shaped.
Inside Medusa
Inspired by the Changing Form of Jellyfish
Medusa takes its name from the jellyfish and, in particular, from the way its body changes shape as it moves through water. That image became the starting point for the lamp’s design.
Rather than using identical repeated components, Mavimatt developed a composition of glass elements that appear suspended along a vertical axis, each with its own curvature and profile. This variation is essential to the identity of the piece.
Like the upper body of a jellyfish in motion, each Murano form takes on a slightly different shape, giving the lamp a sense of fluidity and making every Medusa a distinct composition.
Hand-Blown Murano Glass, Metal, and Marble
Medusa is handcrafted in Italy through a process combining Murano glassmaking, metalworking, and stone selection. Each luminous glass element is individually hand-blown by a master Murano glassmaker.
Because every glass form is blown one at a time, slight differences in curvature, volume and profile are part of the character of the lamp. These glass elements are arranged along a metal stem that houses the integrated lighting system. LEDs positioned within the structure are designed to illuminate each individual Murano form from within, enhancing the depth, color and transparency of the glass.
The lamp is completed by a cylindrical marble base, which gives the piece stability while introducing a further material contrast between stone, metal and glass.
Each Medusa is completed with an aluminum identification plaque engraved with the Mavimatt logo. Crafted by a specialist jeweler and applied by hand to the marble base, the plaque identifies the lamp as an authentic Mavimatt creation.
RAL Colors, Chrome Finishes, Murano Glass Colors, and Marble Selection
Medusa is available in different finish combinations, allowing the client to define the relationship between the stem, the glass elements, and the marble base.
The RAL Edition offers a wide selection of RAL colors for the metal stem, applied through a specialized liquid-coating process and available with matte or gloss finishes.
The Chrome Edition features reflective metallic finishes for the stem, including yellow gold, silver and rose gold, with additional metallic tones available on request.
The Murano glass elements can be produced in different colors, allowing the chosen glass tones to influence the appearance of the light and the overall character of the lamp.
The cylindrical base is available in different natural marble varieties selected on request, enabling each Medusa to be configured through a considered combination of metal finish, glass tone and stone character.
Medusa — A Closer Look
Each Mavimatt piece is individually handcrafted in Italy. Subtle variations in surface, tone, texture, form and hand-finished details are inherent to artisanal production and make every piece unique. Images, renders and on-screen colors are for reference only and may differ slightly from the finished piece.
