Lava is a unique bookcase defined by a continuous, flowing structure and an irregular arrangement of openings.
Its design translates the movement of molten lava into a functional form, handcrafted in Italy, one piece at a time.
Inside Lava
Shaped by the Movement of Molten Lava
Lava draws inspiration from molten lava flowing downward, forming soft, ever-changing contours as it moves.
This movement became the starting point for the bookcase’s design.
Rather than following a conventional grid, its structure develops through an irregular network of openings framed by rounded, flowing volumes.
The result is a composition in which solid and empty spaces interact freely, translating the unpredictable character of molten lava into the architecture of the object.
A Composite Structure Shaped and Finished by Hand
Lava is produced in Italy through an artisanal process, one piece at a time, rather than through an industrial production line.
In its composite editions, Lava is constructed using carbon fiber and fiberglass, combining these materials to create its distinctive sculptural structure.
The form is progressively worked, shaped and sanded by hand until the transitions between its openings and continuous surfaces are refined.
Once the composite body is complete, its surfaces are prepared for finishing and individually coated using a specialized liquid-coating process, followed by manual finishing.
Each Lava is completed with an aluminum identification plaque engraved with the official Mavimatt logo.
Crafted by a specialist jeweler and applied by hand, the plaque identifies the bookcase as an authentic Mavimatt creation.
RAL Colors, Chrome Finishes, Tailor Made, and Natural Marble
Lava is available in different editions, allowing its fluid geometry to take on markedly different material and visual expressions.
The RAL Edition is available in a wide selection of RAL colors, with either matte or gloss finishes.
The Chrome Edition features highly reflective surfaces in selected metallic tones, including yellow gold, rose gold and silver, with additional metallic finishes available on request.
Through Mavimatt Tailor Made, bespoke surface effects, textures, and material-inspired finishes can be developed for individual interiors and special projects.
The Marble Edition is carved from a single solid block of natural marble and worked by hand.
Different marble varieties can be selected on request, giving the same Lava design a substantially different material presence and character.
Lava — A Closer Look
Each Mavimatt piece is individually handcrafted in Italy. Subtle variations in surface, tone, texture, form and hand-finished details are inherent to artisanal production and make every piece unique. A Custom-Built Crate for Lava
Built around Lava’s shape and dimensions to protect it throughout its journey.
Every Lava is prepared for shipment inside a custom-built wooden crate, made according to its specific shape, dimensions and characteristics. Inside, the piece is carefully protected and secured using dedicated packing solutions designed to limit movement and stress during transportation.
From Italy, we arrange worldwide delivery by road, air or sea, selecting the most appropriate solution according to the destination and the characteristics of the order.
