Its design brings together two rounded, wing-like surfaces and a central connecting element, creating a sense of balance, softness, and sculptural tension.

Inspired by the Elegance of a Butterfly
Papilio draws inspiration from butterflies, particularly the balance and symmetry of their wings. These qualities are translated into an essential composition.
Two broad upper surfaces recall the spread of wings, while the supporting volumes below give the table a grounded presence. At the center, a smaller element evokes the butterfly’s head, visually connecting the forms and reinforcing the identity of the piece.
The result is a unique coffee table where symmetry, lightness, and sculptural volume come together in a form that feels both organic and deliberate.
A Sculptural Coffee Table Shaped and Finished by Hand
Papilio is handcrafted in Italy, one piece at a time. In its composite editions, the structure combines fiberglass, carbon fiber, and metal.
Each element is shaped, assembled and refined by hand, with particular attention given to the continuity of the curves and the relationship between the upper surfaces, the supporting forms and the central detail.
Once the composite structure is complete, its surfaces are carefully sanded and prepared by hand before receiving a specialized liquid-coating finish.
The Marble Edition is carved and refined from a solid block of natural marble, preserving Papilio’s sculptural silhouette while introducing a distinctive material character and weight.
Every Papilio is completed with an aluminum identification plaque engraved with the Mavimatt logo. Crafted by a specialist jeweler and applied by hand, the plaque identifies the table as an authentic Mavimatt creation.
Monochrome Finishes, Contrasting Details, Tailor Made, and Natural Marble
Papilio is available in several editions, allowing its wing-like composition to be interpreted through different materials and finishes. The RAL Edition offers a wide selection of RAL colors, with matte or gloss finishes.
The Chrome Edition features reflective metallic finishes, while Mavimatt Tailor Made allows bespoke textures, special finishes, and material-inspired effects to be developed for individual clients or projects.
Papilio can be produced in a single-color configuration or with the central detail finished in a contrasting tone, emphasizing the point where the composition comes together.
The Marble Edition offers a distinctive interpretation of Papilio, with the table carved from a single solid block of natural marble. Different marble varieties can be selected on request, allowing the veining, color, and natural character of the stone to become an integral part of the finished piece.

Each Mavimatt piece is individually handcrafted in Italy. Subtle variations in surface, tone, texture, form and hand-finished details are inherent to artisanal production and make every piece unique. Every Papilio is prepared for shipment inside a custom-built wooden crate, made according to its specific shape, dimensions and characteristics. Inside, the piece is carefully protected and secured using dedicated packing solutions designed to limit movement and stress during transportation.
