Inspired by the natural structure of marine sponges, Porifera translates their porous geometry into a compact sculptural form, handcrafted in Italy, one piece at a time.
Inside Porifera
Inspired by the Porous Geometry of Marine Sponges
Porifera draws inspiration from the porous structure of marine sponges and their irregular network of cavities. This natural geometry became the starting point for the table’s design.
Rather than following a regular geometric pattern, the body develops through a sequence of fluid openings that carve into the volume and define its character from every angle.
The result is a coffee table in which solid mass and empty space remain in constant balance, giving Porifera a strong visual identity rooted in the language of the sea.
A Sculptural Form Shaped and Finished by Hand
Porifera is handcrafted in Italy, one piece at a time. In its composite editions, the structure combines metal, carbon fiber, and fiberglass.
These elements are assembled, shaped and refined by hand, with every opening and transition carefully sanded to achieve the continuity of the form before the finishing phase begins.
Once the composite structure is complete, each table is finished using a specialized liquid-coating process, followed by manual finishing.
A separate Marble Edition is carved from a solid block of natural marble, with its openings and rounded geometry progressively shaped and refined by hand.
Every Porifera is completed with an aluminum identification plaque engraved with the Mavimatt logo. Crafted by a specialist jeweler and applied by hand, the plaque identifies the piece as an authentic Mavimatt creation.
Monochrome, Two-Tone, and Tailor Made Finishes
Porifera is available in several editions, each offering a different interpretation of its porous form through materials and finishes. The RAL Edition is available in a wide selection of RAL colors, with matte or gloss finishes.
The Chrome Edition features reflective metallic finishes in selected tones, including yellow gold, rose gold, and silver, while Mavimatt Tailor Made allows bespoke finishes, textures, and special surface effects to be developed for individual clients or projects.
Porifera can be produced either in a single-color version or in a distinctive two-tone configuration, where the outer contours and the inner openings are finished in different colors. This option makes it possible to create contrasts that emphasize the depth and irregularity of its porous geometry.
The Marble Edition offers a distinctive interpretation of Porifera, with the entire table carved from a single solid block of natural marble. Different marble varieties can be selected on request, allowing the veining, tone, and character of the stone to become an integral part of the final piece.

Each Mavimatt piece is individually handcrafted in Italy. Subtle variations in surface, tone, texture, form and hand-finished details are inherent to artisanal production and make every piece unique.
